This 2.25 KG natural pearl as shown in this photo provided by Bonhams Auction House is said to be the world’s second largest natural pearl ever discovered. In its announcement on November 27th, Bonhams Auction House stated that this 15cm diameter human brain shaped pearl was found in the waters near the Palawan Island of the Philippines. The estimated value of this pearl is 300,000 to 400,000 USD, and the auction is to be held on December 6th in the Los Angeles Natural History Museum, and the lower half of the clamshell that has nurtured this pearl will also be auction.
This pearl is named the Palawan Princess, said to be only lighter than another pearl that weighs 6.35 kg.
The European Gem Lab has participated in the identification of the pearl. Gemologist Mitch Jacobovich from this lab said that this was the largest pearl that he had ever seen and it was a once-of-lifetime chance to have a glimpse of unique treasure nurtured by the nature.
